Samothrace – Sanctuary of the Great Gods

On the north part of the island, at Palaiopolis, west of the ancient city, lies the Sanctuary of the Great Gods dedicated to the cult and the performance of the Mysteries of the Great Gods.

Samothrace - Mantal’ Panaghia

At the location of Mantal’ Panaghia, 3 km far from the settlement of Profitis Ilias and nearby the small chapel under the same name (Prophet Elias), an open-air sanctuary was found probably dedicated to the “Great Mother” as the mountain deity.
