The Monument: The church at it is today was built in the time of the Metropolitan Eugenios of Xanthi. It is a three-aisled basilica with a semicircular niche and a narthex added in a later period. It was totally rebuilt in 1845, according to a built inscription found on the outer part of the west wall of the church. It is very possible that the monument was destroyed completely or, at least suffered severe damages by the earthquakes of the year 1829.
The wooden iconostasis is simple. The paintings date back to the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. There is a portable icon of Theotokos Vrephokratousa on the right icon-stand that could date to the 18th century. In the narthex there is an icon of Aghia Paraskevi dating back to the second half of the 19th century.
There are some remains of wall paintings on the sidewalls depicting themes of the Christological and the Theometoric cycle as well as some separate figures of saints. The epistyles are decorated with folkloric-style geometrical and vegetal patterns.
